10.13.2012 TOUGH MUDDER
12 miles, 21 grueling obstacles, mud, wind, rain, 10,000 volts of electricity and my man IS tough enough!
The morning was crisp and the wind frigid! These 3 men along with hundreds of others stood awaiting their turn to show just how tough {crazy} they really are.
After checking in and being tagged with their race numbers upon their manly foreheads {to identify them in case of death upon said course} they awaited anxiously their turn at the course.
Before they could even get to the start line they had to climb their first obstacle a wall standing 7 feet tall {yes this is a Dani guesstimate so it could totally be taller or smaller :)}
These men are troopers it was 45 degrees when we left our home according to the weather report but that didn't factor in the cold north wind that was blowing.
We all stood in eye shot of the third obstacle {first being this wall} they would face. . . The ARTIC ENEMA.
| Sorry about the sideways picture it wouldn't turn! |
This is obstacle Ten....{I know slacker right but I didn't sign up for a 12 mile run in the freezing cold so I did what I could stop complaining!}
Lumber Jacked had three Logs separated by a few feet, each log was a little bit taller than the next they had to hoist themselves up and over each log {keep in mind it i s 45 degrees they are wet from not just rain but freezing cold water they have conquered 9 previous obstacles already!}
The last Log was nearly as tall as I was! {again a Dani calculation}
Just a side note after he effortlessly did this he helped two women over theirs....Yep I won the prize with this man by my side!
Just so you know this is dangerous...we watched a woman break her foot on this obstacle...:(
Obstacle 11- Electric Eel
This is the first of the electricity overhead were wires strung from barbed wire yes these are live wires and yes they are crawling through water!!!!! {did I mention crazy yet?}
A picture to prove he made it through the Electric Eel alive....
On a side note do you notice the mounds of people surrounding this???? Yeah most are not watching loved ones this is one of the "exciting" ones to watch....Is there something wrong with people!?
OBSTACLE 15- BALLS TO THE WALL
I can't remember how tall they said this wall was but it was TALL. This is a new obstacle they were debuting for 2012.
Apparently a piece of cake for my man!
Watched another tough mudder fall and break her ankle {yes I do see it is always a girl LOL}
OBSTACLE 15 - BERLIN WALLS #2
In this obstacle there were two walls about 10 feet apart no ropes or ladders just pure strength and teamwork to get over the top of both!
Notice the slippery mud to make things even more interesting.
OBSTACLE 16 - CLIFF HANGER
They had to enter again cold water up to their waist and wait their turn to climb a steep muddy hill with a rope chain ladder.
Approximately mile: 10
Sprinting off to a dive into a cold pool of muddy water.
OBSTACLE 19- WALK THE PLANK
This obstacle they climbed up the side of this wooden "diving platform" then had to muster up the desire to plumet into a pool of ice cold muddy water. . . Can you believe they did do a flip or anything for the camera!!!!!!
Yep this sucker is Huge! You had to get a running start and try to run up the wall as far as you could...WHILE COMPLETELY FREEZING AND EXHAUSTED.
As you can see from the guy in the gray not as easy as my sexy man make it look he is the one in the beanie. Seriously he did so amazing, all three of them did I was so impressed and in awe at their strength and determination.
| waiting their turn figuring out their strategy. |
The final obstacle
21. ELECTROSHOCK THERAPY
10,000 live volts of electricity hanging from a wooden structure. Just waiting for a victim to zap!
They had to finish as a team. They all started out with a run but soon were zapped to the ground by the evil wires.
Justin actually blacked out for a couple of seconds as one zapped him behind the ear sending him face first into the mud...this pic is when he is coming to again.
As a spectator you could hear each time it touched one of its victims....as a wife and friend I cringed and reached out every time. . . this was not my favorite obstacle!
They made it bruised, cold, scratched, exhausted, muddy, BUT alive. What an accomplishment.
When asked by this in depth reporter if they would return again next year. . .the two wiser and more mature in their years replied quite enthusiasticly. . . .NO!
As you all know we don't drink alcohol so while the other mudders enjoyed and numbed their bodies with a beer in victory our two boys enjoyed their Pepsi and Coke!
Way to go you guys we are so proud!
